Smoking The Robaina "Padrino / Godfather"
March 2010It was just an intimate get-together of 3 friends, Andreas, Bernhard and me in the pharmacy office to taste the Robaina "Padrino" or Godfather from a Humidor bearing the signatures of all 3 Robainas. A Puro in the true sense of the word. Tobacco from the same soil, the same farm, rolled by one guy, not available anywhere else but there and providing the best and purest taste of Cuban cigar making. To make it short : It is one of the best cigars we have ever tasted. Bar none. Forget Cohiba. Pure Robaina magic. Not once during the more than 2 hours we devoted to this cigar did we find any flaw in it or have anything but praise for it. We were simply overwhelmed by the perfect smoking pleasure, the creaminess but equally the absolute raw power of this beast. Absolute perfection in all its parts made a perfect specimen of a cigar. Going through politics, sociology, Festival matters, literature, movies and all kind of interesting subjects, the cigar always came to the foreground and reminded us of the reason to be together. It made us dizzy and lightheaded, it eased the conversation, it drove us nuts with the flavours, the aroma and the strong personality to be centerpoint and diva. Second to none. Overpowering in the last third, it was too strong. I continued but felt the nicotine kick in and surrendered the last inches. Took me a double Torres 10 yr old Brandy to come down to earth again. Nino Hallo Nino, anbei meine Gedanken zur Padrino: Die Padrino ist eine wunderschöne Zigarre im samtigen Kleid und perfekter Verarbeitung. Damit entspricht sie schon den Erwartungen die man an eine Zigarre stellen kann der Don Alejandro seinen Namen gegeben hat und die direkt von seinen Plantagen kommt. Denn sie ist eine Puro im besten Sinne des Wortes : nur Tabake von Robainas Vega werden verwendet Die Zigarre entwickelt einen intensiven Tabakgeschmack der weder zu schwach noch zu stark ist - einfach harmonisch und dies bleibt auch im weiteren Rauchverlauf so. Lange nicht eine Zigarre mit solch perfektem Abbrand - bei allen 3 - gehabt. Nirgends bissig, keine störenden Aromen, keine Spielereinen - eben eine direkt ansprechende Puro Sie war einfach perfekt und sicherlich für lange Zeit eine "Benchmark" an der sich andere Zigarren - egal welchen Formates oder welcher Marke auch immer - zu messen haben. Es ist einfach so: über das (fast) perfekte muss man manchmal gar nicht sooo viele Worte machen/schreiben ;-)))) Andreas
